Reneweable energy
Nordic countries are blessed with abundant renewable energy resources, and each strives to make the most of their lot.
The use of renewable energy in the Nordic region has been growing steadily during the past years and has helped curb the reliance on coal and gas, mainly for electricity and heat. Most of the region’s energy comes from renewables, compared to about one fifth in the EU at large.
Denmark relies mostly on wind power, on shore and offshore. Norway focuses on hydropower, and Sweden’s largest consumption of renewable energy comes from biofuels.
Energy consumption has been relatively stable in the Nordics since 2005, as renewables increasingly curb reliance on coal and gas, mainly for electricity and heat. Most of the region’s energy comes from renewables compared to about one fifth in the EU at large.
In recent years, the drop in solar modules prices and government support through solar subsidies and relatively high electricity prices combined with the low installation costs in the Nordics has provide greater opportunities for small, self-consumption systems and medium-scale installations in Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.
The combination of periods of strong sunshine, cold weather, reflective snow, and the rise of market parity is causing solar to slowly become more attractive even in the normally cold Nordic countries.
We help companies, organizations, or educational institutions to come and learn what the Nordic countries are doing moving away from fossil energy reliability to the green clean sustainable renewable energy.
